In the The Role of a flower, Marie-Salomé Peyronnel will premiere Siri Thorson’s series of Dutch Masters-inspired Polaroid still lives, which came to the world thanks to soil, water, and time.
Siri Thorson is « the florist of the forest »: Her job is to travel the world to forage flowers and compose fabulous flower arrangements that respect seasons and soil. When she comes back home, in the San Juan Islands near Seattle, she grows her own plants on the family farm.
In this Portrait of San Juan Islands series Siri’s performative approach to image-making has involved overseeing every step of the process: She has planted the seeds of the poppies and has been farming the roses since she is a kid. She knows where to pick wildflowers and she found bird nests and shells in the rich environment of those almost untouched and off-the-grid islands.
In those precious photographs, beauty equals natural cycles of life. Those bouquets have been shot on Fuji FP100c pack film, which is discontinued.
Those unique Polaroids will be in conversation with an installation marrying fresh flowers she also picked (or sourced on local farms) with handmade ceramics by Fernando Aciar (from FEFOSTUDIO).
The line-up of the group exhibition will also include painterly textile works by Sophia Narrett; process-driven photographs by Baptiste Rabichon; monoprints of weeds by Thomas Fougeirol and C-Print Scans by Anna Skladmann whose photographic practice explores human beings' relationship with flowers and the taxonomy of the natural world.
During the course of the show different workshops and dinners will take place, deeply connected to the theme of the show, including a class of dyeing with healing plants and flowers.
